1 Corinthians – my notes

Chapter 1
I have been enriched in every way, I do not lack any spiritual gift, He will keep me strong! Wow!

He wants us to get along! He wants me to be united with others in the church, No bickering

God doesn’t want a lot of people that think they know so much – He wants those that are weak in their own strength and to rely on Him

Chapter 2
My faith doesn’t rest on the wisdom of men but rather on God’s power. No one knows the thoughts of a man – only the Spirit – only through the Spirit can I know spiritual truths.

I pray that the Spirit will reveal spiritual truths to me.

Chapter 3
Another warning about jealousy and quarrelling
Can I handle serious spiritual matters? Am I easily drawn into worldly matters? I want my time here to count for Christ. This should be my daily prayer.

Chapter 4
How should I hope others remember me? I should strive to be known as a servant of Christ and
A trustworthy steward of the gifts God has given me.

Chapter 5
Dealing with immorality within the church.
The church should leave the judgment of unbelievers to God.

Chapter 6
Christians shouldn’t take another Christian to court. It would be better to be wronged or defrauded than to do that.

Good verse 12 – All things are lawful for me but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me but I will not be mastered by anything.

Chapter 7
Marriage, Divorce, Christian Service, Remarriage

Chapter 8
Discussion about eating food that had been sacrificed to idols

I should be careful not to do anything that could cause another person to stumble.

My notes:
1 Corinthians 9
I shouldn’t expect those that serve in Christ’s ministry to do so at their own expense. Ministers, missionaries, church staff, janitors – serve the Lord. I should join in their ministry for Christ by giving to their support.

1 Corinthians 10
Several things stand out to me in this chapter.
We are reminded of how the Israelites struggled. Their sin, how they wandered – these are given to us as warnings so we want repeat their struggles, sins.

I can do anything – eat anything, but that isn’t the best. I shouldn’t be concerned about just myself. I should be concerned about others. I should be concerned about the welfare of others so they will be saved. My behavior should bring others to Christ – not the other way around.

If I’m invited to dinner by a non-Christian – I shouldn’t get into matters of controversy. I am reminded that love should triumph over everything. Arguments divide, love brings together.

1 Corinthians 11
The early church was being warned about division and factions within the church. Paul stresses unity within the church

Confess sins before taking the Lord’s Supper.

1 Corinthians 12
Different gifts and the purpose of gifts.
Church shouldn’t have divisions, no one better than another

1 Corinthians 13
The Love Chapter – love is the greatest gift

1 Corinthians 14
The gift of Prophecy is preferred over the gift of speaking in Tongues

1 Corinthians 15
The importance of the resurrection, what happens if there is no resurrection? The resurrection body – what will we look like?

A Favorite verse: “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.”
Good stuff in this chapter…

1 Corinthians 16
Collection of money – 1st day of the week
Discussion of Paul planned visit and more encouragement
